ABOUT US
White Rock is one of the Lower Mainland's best locations for flatland skimboarding with eight kilometres of sandy beach and warm shallow waters. The progression of the sport in the area has been drastic from simple crusier runs to today's skateboard/snowboard influenced tricks such as Ollies and butters. The Breakneck Crew is proud to have been part of this revolution in White Rock from the beginning. Since 1997, Kyle Lynch has been doing his thing at East Beach experiencing the change from constructing driftwood rails to complex PVC rails, from wood bases with resin to all types of stronger more slick materials.

" Over the past ten years, It has been amazing watching how far the sport has come. I never imagined that the sport would become so popular. I remember when I first began skimming, I was one of the only a few skimboarders on the beach and now I have a full crew of guys just as stoked as I am. "

TRICK TIPS - COURTESY OF KAYOTICS.COM
Ollie: The ollie is key to learn because it helps to pop on other tricks.  First off, in order to ollie you need to find a pool that has some depth to it, or dig an ollie pit (about minimum 4 inches deep). When approaching the deeper water stay relaxed with your back foot about as far back as you can put it, and your front foot about shoulder length distance away.  Once you approach the pit press down on your back foot and lift up your front foot.  Lift your legs up and absorb the board to its parallel to the ground when its in the air. As you come down, make sure the board is as flat as possible when you land and absorb the impact with your legs.  Ride away and get stoked, because you just learned a key trick.

Shuv (it): First, find a pool is that is long and shallow.  Then, throw the board, run, jump on and be riding strait.  Then put pressure on your back foot while flicking your back leg backwards.  Give your front leg/foot a little flick forward.  Catch the board smoothly with your feet and ride away strait.  Once you got that on lock down, then move on to the Pop Shuv, and three shuv. If you want the board to spin faster then flick your legs harder.

Pop Shuv (it): Like the ollie, find a shallow pool that goes deeper.  Then, throw, run, jump and be riding strait.  Put more pressure on your back foot then just on a regular shuv, then ollie / shuv.  Be pushing down on the back of the board, flick it back wards and jump at the same time.  Catch the board, push it down and ride away. If you want the board to spin faster then flick your legs harder.

Frontside Shuv: This trick is the same as the shuv, but instead of flicking your back leg backward, you flick it forward.  As well you flick your front leg backwards.  Have fun.

Three (sixty) shuv (it): This trick is very similar to the shuv.  Find a pool that is long shallow.  Put pressure with your back leg on your board, pushing your leg behind you. Use your front foot as kind of a guide, also flicking a little with it in a forward motion.    Once the board has rotated a full three sixty catch it and ride away.

Frontside three (sixty) shuv (it): This trick is a frontside shuv but with more pressure, just like the three shuv.

Backside 180: The first thing you probably want to do is learn how to ollie.  Once you’ve got that down then the backside 180 won’t be so hard.  As your riding along, preparing to backside 180,  start turning your head down, looking backwards.  Then start to ollie and jump a backside 180, while keeping the board under your feet.  Land that, and you’ll be dope.

Backside Bigspin: A big spin is a three shuv with a backside 180, so learn both of these tricks first.. OK, as your riding along flick your board as if your going to do a three shuv (or a pop three shuv, depending if you want pop or not), and throw in a backside 180 at the same time.

Frontside 180: This trick involves an ollie, so learn that first.  Ollie while rotating your shoulders in a frontside 180 motion. Suck up the board continuing your spin.  While landing absorb the inpact with your knees and keeping going strait switch. After learning this trick be stoked, or stop skimboarding.

Frontside Bigspin: A frontside Bigspin is a combination of a frontside 180 and a frontside three shuv. Add the two together and you get this mean trick. This trick is a very smooth feeling trick. Start by rotating your shoulders frontside, then throwing a three shuv as you throw a frontside 180. Bon appetite.

Once you get these tricks try them swith, or in combination with one another. And trust me, there are more ticks you can do, either with more spins, or more shuvs.  Kickflips perhaps?
